Last Nite

Following a few relaxing days in Providence, today I set off for Atlanta. It was a very long and very rainy drive today. I'm halfway there(somewhere in Virginia). I got here just in time for a short run, bowl of cereal, blog, and bed. It is amazing how much driving can take out of you. All you are doing is sitting there but the mental concentration required to drive for hours on end can easily exhaust you. Highlights of the music I listened to on the way down were: Aerosmith, Neil Young, The Strokes, The Who, and Radiohead.

Here is my first music/music video review. I'm planning to do a lot of these. Most of them will be old favorites of mine. However, soon I hope to start hunting down some fresh music, which I haven't really been doing for the past couple months.

This song makes me want to:
Beat Christina Aguilera with a golf club.
The Strokes-Last nite from f3RxuS on Vimeo.

This video was a serious breakthrough for my music development. I first saw this video when it came out in 2001 on MTV. At the time I hated literally all modern music and listened to absolutely nothing that was recorded post 95'. At the time MTV was infested with untalented hacks. The rapper with an entourage and crude lyrics, the pretty boy groups that sang songs written by record label producers, the blonde with big tits and an awful voice, they could all find themselves at the top of the TRL chart. This video by The Strokes was nothing short of a giant breath of fresh air. This is a group that was not afraid to market themselves through a live music video. No flashy cloths, sexy dancers, or fancy camera work. These guys looked like they all just woke up from sleeping on a basement sofa. Where every other music video looks like it was manufactured by a pop-culture-making-machine, any imperfection in this video makes them shine. They weren’t particularly original at the time but the style they emanated was just what the music world needed. This video restored my faith in modern music.

That's all for now.
